Deuteronomy 18 & Matthew 5 – Is Gods Law For His People? Intro10 Jan

This intro to a series of articles concerning the Christian and the Law of God is extremely important  to understand when approaching the question: “Is Gods Law for His people?”. It is my understanding that the commandments of the Father are the commandments of the Son and the original words of God are the plumb line to base all doctrine on.  The following verses are important to the establish the purpose of the law as our guide to all truth.

Deuteronomy 18:15-21“The LORD your God will raise up for you a Prophet like me from your midst, from your brethren. Him you shall hear, 16 according to all you desired of the LORD your God in Horeb in the day of the assembly, saying, ‘Let me not hear again the voice of the LORD my God, nor let me see this great fire anymore, lest I die.’ 17 “And the LORD said to me: ‘What they have spoken is good. 18 I will raise up for them a Prophet like you from among their brethren, and will put My words in His mouth, and He shall speak to them all that I command Him. 19 And it shall be that whoever will not hear My words, which He speaks in My name, I will require it of him. 20 But the prophet who presumes to speak a word in My name, which I have not commanded him to speak, or who speaks in the name of other gods, that prophet shall die.’ 21 And if you say in your heart, ‘How shall we know the word which the LORD has not spoken?’— 22 when a prophet speaks in the name of the LORD, if the thing does not happen or come to pass, that is the thing which the LORD has not spoken; the prophet has spoken it presumptuously; you shall not be afraid of him.

It is here in Deuteronomy that we find several of the most specific and most important words of the Father concerning the person and character of the coming Son/Messiah.  These words are a plumb line that that the coming Messiah would be required to measure up to in order to be authenticated.  YHWH gave these words to Israel that  they would be able to judge the coming prophet in the future.  I believe that Yehshua (Jesus) is the one that YHWH promised would come and that He fits this description perfectly.  The problem I have is that most of professing Christianity has become followers of one who does not measure up the standards set here in Deuteronomy.   They have somehow transformed the obedient Son, who spoke in alignment with the Father, into one who came and opposed Moses and changed the Law of the Father.   It is my position that this is not the Yehshua that we see in the Scriptures, but one who has been created by the tradition and commandments of men.

We are not to break or teach against Gods commandments

Matthew 5:17-19 “Do not think that I came to destroy the Law or the Prophets. I did not come to destroy but to fulfill. 18 For assuredly, I say to you, till heaven and earth pass away, one jot or one tittle will by no means pass from the law till all is fulfilled. 19 Whoever therefore breaks one of the least of these commandments, and teaches men so, shall be called least in the kingdom of heaven; but whoever does and teaches them, he shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven.

Yehshua (Jesus), taught us to obey all the thing that He commanded, to follow (not break)those things and to not teach men to break these commands.  In light of what was recorded in Deuteronomy 18:15-21 these commandments were the same words recorded in the Law of Moses ie the Law of YHWH.  Therefore, any Jesus that we create that opposed the Father or the Law of Moses is a false Jesus and is disqualified to be the Messiah.  I believe that the evidence is overwhelming, that our view that Jesus somehow changed or opposed Moses or the Father is an error in our interpretation of the simple rendering of the text.  The following posts will hopefully clear these errors up.
